What is RMR? Resting metabolic rate (RMR) represents the calories the body burns to maintain vital body functions (heart rate, brain function, breathing) daily activity (occupational and lifestyle), and the energy cost of exercise or planned activity.
In simple terms, it is the number of calories a person would burn if they were awake, but at rest all day. RMR can represent up to 75% of a person’s total metabolism if they are inactive or lead a sedentary lifestyle.
Why is it necessary to measure RMR? Since RMR accounts for up to 75% of the total calories we need each day, it’s a critical piece of information to appropriately establish daily calorie needs, whether we’re trying to lose or maintain weight. Most healthcare and fitness professionals recognize that metabolism is impacted by a variety of characteristics such as fever, illness, high fitness, obesity, active weight loss, etc. When managing your own nutritional needs and calorie requirements, knowledge of RMR is critically important.
Because metabolism is different among individuals, estimated RMR can lead to errors, and inaccurate calorie budgets. As a result of these estimates, individuals can be both over or under eating, and not be successful in reaching their personal goals.
How does it work? The BodyGem is a hand-held indirect calorimeter that measures oxygen consumption to determine the Resting Metabolic Rate. The most accurate assessment of caloric needs is by measuring oxygen consumption and determining individual metabolism. The BodyGem® is a tool that will provide information vital for determining your personalized calorie budget, based on your individual metabolism, necessary to achieve and maintain proper weight and nutrition.
What time of day do you do this? Best results are in the morning before exercise, food and caffine. NO SMOKING 1 hour before test. WATER only before the test. OR FASTING 4 + hours during your day , NO food, NO CAFFINE and NO exercise. NO SMOKING 1 hour before test…nicotine stimulates metabolisms and you will not get an accurate measurement.
How much time does it take? 10 to 15 minutes to sit still before the test begins 7 to 10 minutes to take the actual breathing test 20 minutes for us to fill out your profile total – 40 to 45 minutes
How much does it cost? $65.00
What do I get for $65.00 You will now know your RMR. You will get a printed profile sheet containing the information needed to help you with your nutritional needs to maintain bodyweight or lose body fat or gain muscle mass.
